The One Called 'Demon Lord'

Led into the audience chamber of the mansion called Drottningholm, I took one look at him seated on the throne before kneeling and lowering my head.

He, the 'Demon Lord' Koai, was dressed in a thick, long-sleeved robe, white gloves, and even an iron mask, despite it being the height of summer.
I heard later that he always dressed this way. Because of this, it was said that not even his closest aides knew his true face or appearance...

There is something important to remember when facing him.

You must not anger him.
You must not displease him.
You must not be thought to have intentions of manipulating him.

You must not incur his displeasure. It would be one thing if only my head were to roll for it.
The reason for this is the story that the Polymelas Earldom, which was annihilated in an attack by him earlier this spring, was destroyed because of the disrespect shown by Viscount Poman, the Earl's heir...
I had never spoken with Viscount Poman, but he had a reputation for being well-versed in ceremony and etiquette, a very polite, humble, and gentle man. For that very Viscount to have been so disrespectful to the 'Demon Lord' as to be brutally murdered...

"I am Baron Orby, Cain. It is an honor beyond measure to meet you."
"I have no need for flowery words. State your business."
A voice, somber yet somewhat high-pitched, reached my ears.
