Summer vacation. It’s supposed to be the long-awaited break for students, but…

“This school’s summer vacation is way too short, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, you’re right.”

At Kaisei High School, the summer vacation lasts a mere three weeks. I still remember being a bit shocked when I first checked the annual curriculum schedule after enrolling.

During the break, I make it a point to come to school as often as possible, studying in the air-conditioned study room.

“Asano-kun, you really come to school every day to study, huh?”
“Well, studying here also helps save electricity at home.”

At lunchtime, it’s become routine to eat with Shiraki, who’s at school for baseball club practice. I’ve gotten used to chatting with him while we eat—his conversations usually revolve around how long his club practice lasts or how much he wants a girlfriend, trivial stuff like that.

“Asano-kun, are you still hanging out with Endo over the summer?”
“Nah, I haven’t seen her once since the break started.”

On the last day of school, Endo left me with a comment about being busy with family matters over the summer, and we haven’t met up since.

“Huh, so… what kind of guy does Endo like, I wonder?”
“Hmm, probably… someone she can talk to openly and have a relaxed relationship with, I guess.”
